Formed in 1968, The National Library in Abidjan was initially the library for the French Institute of Black Africa. The library has a collection of over 75,000 volumes of scientific books and magazines.

The Museum of Cote D'Ivoire
If you want to know more about Abidjan’s history and culture, then the best place to visit is The Museum of Cote D'Ivoire. The human and animal statuettes made from terracotta are extremely beautiful. There are also a number of wooden masks, Ivorian musical instruments and pottery items with the total collection adding to nearly 20,000 pieces.

Cocody Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art
The Cocody Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art features a permanent exhibition of modern, contemporary work by Ivorian and African artists. The museum was started in November 1993 due to the initiative of City Council of Cocody. The museum’s collection includes 150 paintings, 40 sculptures, 15 ceramics and 11 tapestries and 216 books.

The National Museum of Abidjan houses many historic artifacts and statues, and its main highlights are African crafts made from ivory.

American Cultural Center
The American Cultural Center was started for American diplomats in 1961 and includes a library encompassing thousands of books. The library was thrown open to the Ivorian public in 1964. Initially it was based at The Plateau, but in 1974 it moved to the Cocody neighbourhood. The Cultural Centre has a large reading hall where one can read the books in peace.
